Singapore Global Soccer Scam Scandal

(Source - http://ntdtv.org/en/news/world/asia/2013-02-05/singapore-global-soccer-scam-scandal.html)

Singapore identified as the hub of a massive global soccer match fixing scam.

Singapore is in the spotlight, as European Law Enforcement agency Europol identifies the wealthy city state as the hub of a massive global soccer fixing scam.

Europol say the World Cup, the European Championships, and the Champions League have all fallen prey to the worldwide betting scandal.

The report announces that operations have been run out of Singapore, and extend to corrupt officials, players and criminals in 15 countries.

Singapore is a tightly run city state, with the government controlling the only legal betting agency.

Singapore Pools operates a vast network throughout the nation, with outlets in every housing estate to facilitate gambling.

According to Reuters, around $3 billion are gambled on sport worldwide every single day, mostly coming from Asia and wagered on soccer matches.

Soccer is the world's most popular sport, played on every continent.

The World Cup and the European Champions League are televised worldwide, and generate billions of dollars for national associations, clubs and broadcasters.

Football's world governing body FIFA has announced it will create a dedicated anti-corruption education unit based in Singapore to fight match-fixing.

But no criminal charges or arrests have been made.

Match Fixing scandal- Singapore under fire

Singapore's football association says it iscontinuing to work closely with both domestic and international authorities.

A betting syndicate from the country is accused of coordinating a global match-fixing operation.

Europol revealed on Monday that 380 professional football matches across europe, and a further 300 in other continents had been fixed.

Photo Essay: Singapore Botanic Garden - Let's embrace into NATURE!

Let's embrace into NATURE! Visit Singapore Botanic Garden.
Relax and Enjoy my photo essay of the flowers and plants at Singapore Botanic Garden below!

History:
Sir Stamford Raffles, the founder of Singapore and a keen naturalist, set up the first Botanic Garden on Government Hill at Fort Canning in 1822 mainly to introduce into cultivation economic crops such as nutmeg, clove and cocoa. This Garden was closed in 1829.

The Gardens at its present site was founded in 1859 by an Agri-Horticultural Society, and was later handed over to the government for maintenance. From an ornamental garden with roads, terraces, a bandstand and even a small zoo, it has come a long way in evolving into a leading equatorial botanic garden of 63 hectares.

The 150-year old Singapore Botanic Gardens is a star visitor attraction for the sophisticated traveller as well as the local resident. This Gardens possesses an array of botanical and horticultural attractions with a rich history and a wonderful plant collection of worldwide significance. Complementing these unique resources are sensitive developments providing visitors educational and recreational facilities.
